Lithium Battery System for Hybrid systems

Lithium Battery System for Hybrid power system

The Hybrid systems main components include lithium batteries, battery-rack, Inverter-cabinet, and transformer. The system will be connected in parallel with the existing power systems on the marine. To ensure a good working environment and high safety standard, we base the batteries on Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) technology. This chemistry is well known and one of the safest batteries on the marked. Resulting in a system that minimize thermal runaway even if the cells are physically damaged.

Battery Management System

Every single battery-cell in every module is thoroughly monitored and values such as cell voltage, voltage-balance, temperatures, state of charge and more are transferred to the battery management system (BMS). The BMS data is handled by the EMS where safety-issues also are handled, such as circuit-breakers, fuses, temperatures and so on.

The Battery Management System (BMS) monitors and protects the system from exceeding their maximum and minimum electrical thresholds. The BMS “looks” at the maximum and minimum values at the cell level, module level and system level. Electrical insulation / isolation is monitored internally within the BMS and battery modules. Upon detection of a fault, the BMS when configured for isolation monitoring, will safely disconnect the batteries from the high voltage system. High voltage and energized conductors are physically protected against the risk of accidental exposure by personnel.

Battery Rack

The battery modules are typically are mounted in a battery rack system. A rack system can be module-based to fit the marine application. The standard rack design consists of 6 modules that can be placed/located in many ways (on top of each other, beside each other).
